Rate basis: nominal annual reducing-balance rate, divided into monthly periods. Do not enter a flat, profit or effective rate as though it were the same basis.

Formula and assumptions
Formula ID: reducing-balance-loan@1.1.0
Calculations use unrounded intermediate values. Ringgit and percentage outputs are rounded to two decimal places; break-even months are rounded up. A displayed monthly amount multiplied by tenure may therefore differ slightly from the displayed total.
- Payments are monthly and equal.
- The nominal annual rate is divided by 12.
- Fees, insurance, taxes and rate changes are excluded.
- Inputs support tenures up to 600 months, annual rates up to 100%, and ringgit amounts to sen precision.
- Displayed Malaysian ringgit values are rounded to two decimal places.
Answer first
Enter the amount, tenure and the rate basis stated in a current product disclosure. The result must show monthly payment, total scheduled repayment, financing cost and every assumption. Flat-rate and reducing-balance inputs are not interchangeable; do not paste a headline flat rate into an amortising formula. Compare matched amounts and tenures, then add mandatory charges from the disclosure. Use the result as a budget test, not an offer or approval prediction.
Malaysian example
For RM20,000 over five years, a displayed RM430 payment means RM25,800 across 60 payments and RM5,800 above principal before separately disclosed charges.
