Car affordability estimate

Change the illustrative values. Nothing you enter is sent or stored; measurement records only the tool name and formula version.

Method boundary: Legacy flat-rate reverse illustration only. It is not a legal or product-method determination. Check current provider documents; Malaysian legal review of the 2026 transition remains pending.

Formula and assumptions

Formula ID: car-affordability-flat-rate@1.1.0

Calculations use unrounded intermediate values. Ringgit and percentage outputs are rounded to two decimal places; break-even months are rounded up. A displayed monthly amount multiplied by tenure may therefore differ slightly from the displayed total.

  • The transport budget includes the loan and recurring ownership costs.
  • The flat rate applies to the original financed amount for the full tenure.
  • The deposit is available separately from emergency savings.
  • Inputs support tenures up to 600 months, annual rates up to 100%, and ringgit amounts to sen precision.
  • The result is a planning ceiling, not a recommended spend or quotation.

Answer first

Choose a monthly transport ceiling after essentials and savings. Enter fuel, tolls, parking, insurance and maintenance sinking funds separately; the remainder is a planning instalment ceiling. The tool may reverse a disclosed flat-rate illustration to estimate financed amount, but it must show the method and keep the result separate from lender eligibility. Treat the output as a ceiling to challenge, not a spending target.

Malaysian example

From a RM1,500 transport ceiling, RM750 of running-cost allowances leaves RM750 for an illustrative instalment. A higher fuel commute reduces the car-price range.
